The T20 kicks off

Chaired by CIPPEC and CARI, a new round of the Think 20 (T20) to produce public policy proposals for the Argentine presidency of the G20 kicks off. The forum will draft proposals with the help of its 10 Task Forces on priority issues for the G20 and its members.

The CARI and CIPPEC will lead the open and independent network of think tanks through November 30 2018, when the Japanese presidency commences. The primary challenge will be to provide continuity with the work carried
out during the German presidency while at the same taking on new issues that are of regional and international importance.

“In an international context of a world in disorder, contributions from Civil Society to T20 must be concrete for the population’s well being”, highlighted CARI’s executive Director, José María Lladós. He added: “Climate change, migration, food supply are topics that deserve a follow up, while working future and the role of education are the main challenges, that need sharp strategies to be addressed, and where T20 deserves being a sounding board of it”

For the Argentine organizations, the task is “a great responsibility given the international context and the legacy left by Germany” according to Julia Pomares, CIPPEC’s executive director. She added that “we’d like to include some new issues like education and a gender perspective” and to “send clear messages to the public: we’ve got to be part of that and not distant from public debate.”

During the Argentine presidency, the forum will draft proposals with the help of its 10 Task Forces on priority issues for the G20 and its members. These proposals will be published as public policy documents and further to the T20 summit, which will be held in Buenos Aires from the 16th to the 18th of September, after which recommendations will be made to the Argentine presidency of the G20.

The working groups will address the following topics:

Task Force 1: The Future of Work and Education for the Digital Age
Task Force 2: Climate Action and Infrastructure for Development
Task Force 3: Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture
Task Force 4: Gender Economic Equity
Task Force 5: Cooperation with Africa
Task Force 6: 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
Task Force 7: Trade, Investment and Tax Cooperation
Task Force 8: Social Cohesion, Global Governance and the Future of Politics
Task Force 9: An International Financial Architecture for Stability and Development
Task Force 10: Migration
