CIPPEC’s international work during 2020

2020 was the year of our 20th anniversary. We wanted to celebrate it, but reality prevailed and we decided to do what we know best. We are proud of the work we did.

For Argentina, 2020 was a challenging year from the start. The political transition placed the spotlight on the direction of the new government and with it, the public policy agenda. In the background, economic recession and Argentina’s difficulties to achieve sustained growth were also present. The pandemic and the preventive and mandatory lockdown deepened and worsened all these difficulties.

CIPPEC developed a strategy to support the public sector, with innovative ideas for an uncertain context. “The political, economic and social impact of the pandemic” was a year-long initiative in which we focused on key issues for Argentina: changes in employment, consequences for the most vulnerable sectors, functioning of institutions, fiscal sustainability, and educational emergency.

In parallel, CIPPEC deepened the public-private dialogue, understanding that the pandemic and the even more uncertain post-pandemic scenario represented an opportunity for change and transformation. Guided by the premise of providing evidence to build better public policies, we launched METAS for the post-pandemic, an initiative based on analysis, projections, international cases, and dialogue between private and public sector leaders and international specialists, with the aim of nurturing new ideas for both the emergency and the post-pandemic world.

The pandemic, as we know, is a global phenomenon. We learned what was happening in other countries and nurtured the analysis and local conversation by integrating the Think20 network together with public policy centers in dozens of countries, and participating in projects with international outlook and reach.

2020 was the year of our 20th anniversary. We wanted to celebrate it, but reality prevailed and we decided to do what we know best. We are proud of the work we did.
