It is with extreme sadness that we learnt that James McGann, director of the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) of the University of Pennsylvania, passed away last Monday, November 29th. Through these brief lines, we would like to express our condolences.

James was dedicated to establishing and strengthening a global network of think tanks and researchers, driving a series of high-level summits, events and conferences – always taking into account different regional perspectives and making a special effort over the last year to highlight the role of women in research, scholarship and advocacy.

Creator of the Global Go To Think Tank Index, McGann leaves us an enormous and extremely important tool to measure and make visible the work of think tanks from all corners of the world.

His legacy in international cooperation, based on a multidisciplinary and transregional approach, will live on in our work. We will try to honor both his work and spirit in the collaborations and networks we build in the future.
