Gala Díaz Langou, CIPPEC´s Executive Director, attended the annual meeting of the Council for Global Problem-Solving (CGP), part of the Global Solutions Summit, which took place on May15th-16th in Berlin, Germany.

Since 2017, the Global Solutions Summit has provided a two-day forum for the world´s-leading minds to propose and debate research-based policy recommendations for the G20 and G7.

Díaz Langou was a panelist in the following discussion forums: “Measuring Prosperity: Values for a Flourishing Life” and “Promoting Social Well-being in Times of Transformation and Uncertainty”.

The first panel discussed the need to sharpen the measurement of growth and social welfare with tools beyond the purely economic. They should enable the measurement and evaluation of contributions from more relevant sectors, such as the care economy. An example of such tools, particularly important in contexts of demographic transition and population aging, is the Basic Care Basket.

In the second panel, the Executive Director emphasized the importance of planning in contexts of uncertainty and transformation to promote social well-being. In particular, she reflected on the role of think tanks, especially the roles that can be assumed in contexts where democracy is being questioned and social polarization is growing.

The session took place at the Auditorium Maximum and leaders from the private and public sectors and labor unions participated. The moderator was Sebastian Schuwark, partner and senior vice president of Fleishmanhillard. Among the participants who shared the round-table with Díaz Langou were: Marc Fleurbaey (Paris School of Economics), Sanjeev Krishan, (PwC), Irene Natividad (Globe Women Research and Education Institute) and Achim Steiner (UNDP).
