#It’sTimeToBecomeInvolved

Through its executive director, Gala Díaz Langou, CIPPEC makes known a series of proposals: specific and feasible public policies that will contribute to building a better and stronger democracy for the next 40 years.

This year, Argentina celebrates 40 years of uninterrupted democracy and, once again, we are holding elections. Two major milestones coexist with pending challenges. At CIPPEC, we promote public policies aimed at sustainable development, social inclusion and strengthening institutional quality. With the purpose of sharing the proposals we developed, we launched the campaign #It’sTimeToBecomeInvolved

Through a series of videos, Gala Díaz Langou, executive director, summarizes the nature and objectives of the #40D initiative -a process of public, participative, federal and intergenerational dialogue- and how these efforts are clearly and specifically translated into public policy recommendations, aimed at sustainable development, inclusive growth and the institutional strength of Argentina’s democracy that lies ahead of us.

Among the challenges that our country is facing, we identified four areas that we consider key and that no future government can afford to avoid: childhood, education, pensions and the operation of the State.

For several years we have been working on the diagnosis of the structural problems that affect the Argentine reality. Always based on evidence, and thinking of feasible public policy proposals that can transform the Argentine socioeconomic reality, we understand that this moment urges us to reach consensus among all sectors involved in long-term development and, above all, it urges us to act.

Why #It’sTimeToBecomeInvolved and what does it mean for CIPPEC?

We believe that this anniversary of democracy invites us to talk about it, take care of it and continue building it through dialogue, based on a commitment to what is to come. To this end, we are thinking about the future by creating knowledge, holding discussions with all sectors and suggesting concrete solutions to Argentina’s structural problems.

What can we do to make the democracy of the next 40 years stronger? What specific aspects can we work on now?

Childhood

What is it like to raise a child in Argentina today? What are the challenges this poses? How can we socialize care? What are the causes and consequences of the fact that caregiving tasks are deeply feminized? Do we recognize the true value of child care for the development of our society? Why should we consolidate a parental leave system that is universal and promotes co-responsibility in caregiving?

Education

What can we do to ensure that boys and girls finish secondary school? How can we stop school exclusion? Are there any experiences in Argentina that are already working to prevent school exclusion?

Pensions

How can we make pension-related expenditure more efficient? What is the role played by the exception regimes within the system? What are the distribution problems faced by the Argentine pension system and what should be the focus of actions aimed at changing its current logic? What elements make the system unsustainable today? How to achieve a fiscally appropriate balance between coverage and sustainability in the pension system?

Operation of the State: public employment

How many men and women workers are employed by the State? What do public employees do and what skills do they have? What kinds of heterogeneities prevent today the public sector from having a planned and physically sustainable horizon? How can investments and actions in the area of public employment be given direction? How to attract and retain technical and specialized profiles?
