Mercedes Méndez Ribas, Institutional Development Director, presented some of the main conclusions and recommendations drafted together with more than 70 think tanks.

On June 30th Mercedes Méndez Ribas, Institutional Development & International Cooperation Director of CIPPEC, presented together with colleagues from the Heritage Foundation (USA), the Observer Research Foundation (India) and the Barcelona Centre for International Affairs (Spain), a set of conclusions and recommendations drafted by the “Being Fit for an Uncertain Future: New Operating Models for Think Tanks: Research, Communications and Funding” Working Group, which resulted from several weeks of work among over 70 think tanks from around the world under the leadership of the Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI) and the European Policy Center.

Organized by the Think Tanks and Civil Society Program (TTCSP) of the University of Pennsylvania, and with the support of several of the most relevant research centers globally (including CIPPEC), the event was the third and last meeting of a series that brought together more than 500 representatives from think tanks, experts, government officials and multilateral organizations to address some of the most pressing challenges that think tanks will have to respond to in the new global context.

The aim of the event was to share the new strategies and skills that will be needed to address the medium- and long-term consequences of COVID-19 in terms of 1) the health crisis, 2) economic recovery, 3) public-private interventions that protect the most vulnerable groups, 4) international cooperation, and 5) new organizational and operational models for think tanks.
